മെക്‌സിക്കോ സിറ്റി: മെക്സിക്കോയുടെ മധ്യ പസഫിക് തീരത്ത് വന്‍ഭൂചലനം. റിക്ടര്‍ സ്‌കെയിലില്‍ 7.6 തീവ്രതയാണ് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയതെന്ന് യു.എസ് ജിയോളജിക്കല്‍ സര്‍വേ പറയുന്നു.
പ്രാദേശിക സമയം ഉച്ചക്ക് 1.5ഓടെയായിരുന്നു ഭൂചലനം റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്തത്. നിലവില്‍ പ്രദേശത്ത് നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങളൊന്നും റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് മെക്‌സിക്കോ സിറ്റി മേയര്‍ ക്ലോഡിയ ഷെന്‍ബോം ട്വിറ്ററില്‍ കുറിച്ചു.

1985ല്‍ മെക്‌സിക്കോയില്‍ നടന്ന ഭൂചലനത്തില്‍ ഏകദേശം പതിനായിരത്തോളം പേര്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. കനത്ത നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങളും പ്രദേശത്ത് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ 19നായിരുന്നു അന്ന് ഭൂകമ്പമുണ്ടായത്. 2017ല്‍ ഇതേ ദിവസം ഭൂചലനമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. 3702 പേരാണ് അന്ന് മരണപ്പെട്ടത്. 7.1 തീവ്രതയിലായിരുന്നു ഭൂചലനം റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്തത്.

ഭൂചലനത്തെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് മെക്‌സിക്കന്‍ തീരപ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ സുനാമി മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നല്‍കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ മുന്‍കരുതലായി മെക്‌സിക്കോ സിറ്റിയില്‍ ആളുകളെ കെട്ടിടങ്ങളില്‍നിന്ന് ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചു. ഭൂകമ്പമുണ്ടായ പ്രദേശത്ത് നിന്നും 600ലേറെ കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ അകലെയാണ് രാജ്യതലസ്ഥാനമായ മെക്‌സിക്കോ സിറ്റി.
