Kozhikode:  BJP chief Amit Shah is likely to face a contempt of Court charge due to his remarks about Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala women entry. The opposition termed his remarks to be contempt of the court and unconstitutional. Shah during his visit to Kerala on Saturday said that the court should only give out judgments that can be implemented. And pointed out cases of Jallikattu, use of loudspeakers in mosque etc. as orders that are yet not implemented. The opposition views these remarks from the country”s ruling party chief as an insult to the Supreme Court.

CPIM find Shah”s statements as substantiating the allegation that BJP and RSS plan behind the chaos that took place at Sabarimala following the SC verdict. While the Congress called it a misguided move by the BJP Chief.

Amit Shah also threatened the Kerala government that it will be pulled down if it continues its attempts to implement the SC order at Sabarimala. CPIM called this remark as another sign of BJP”s anti-democratic stand.

Different political leaders came forward to express their dismay at Amit shah”s statements.

Putting an end to a centuries-old tradition, the Supreme Court on September 28th Saturday ruled that women, irrespective of age, can enter Kerala’s Sabarimala temple. A five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, said that the provision in the Kerala Hindu Places of Public Worship (Authorisation of Entry) Rules, 1965, which authorized the restriction, violated the right of Hindu women to practice religion. It also said that patriarchy in religion cannot be allowed to trump the right to pray.

The Kerala government took the call and explained that as part of the democratic system it is the Government’s duty to implement the SC order. When Sabarimala was left open for devotees on October 16th taking SC order into account several women came forward to enter Sabarimala. But a group of people stopped each woman who tried to enter Sabarimala.

The following days witnessed a severe conflict at Sabarimala between police and protesters. There was also a break out of violence at Sabarimala led by protesters. This caused Kerala State Transport Corporation a huge loss of 1.25crore. Protesters also attacked journalists and destroyed their vehicles and equipment. It was only after these protests and chaos Chief of the ruling party at the center visited Kerala and announced to pull down Kerala Govt from power.
